Psoriasis And Eczema – What Is The Difference

Eczema is an itchy inflammation of the skin most common in children although it can affect adults as well. It affects any part of the body and is also known as Atopic Dermatitis. It is caused by a hypersensitivity of the skin, which is made worse by various factors including dry skin, stress, and temperature changes. These irritants can cause inflammation over long periods of time. This inflammation can in turn cause itchiness and the skin becomes dry, scaly and damaged. In some cases where the sufferer has scratched consistently, the skin can become thicker and appear leathery in order to cope with the damage from scratching. If the Eczema sufferer is an adult, it is generally due to a long-term condition or recurring bouts of the condition.

Psoriasis is caused when the skin cells of the epidermis multiply at an abnormally high rate. This causes the skin to thicken and become scaly. The skin then becomes inflamed and red as white blood cells enter the skin. Psoriasis occurs at any age and generally appears from the age of 15 to 25. Although Psoriasis is caused by an unusual growth of skin cells it is not a related condition to cancer and the condition itself is harmless although distressing for sufferers.

In comparison with Eczema, Psoriasis symptoms include red scaly skin that is quite thick whereas Eczema is typically red, scaly skin that can appear moist in some areas. Eczema may not always appear moist however and in some cases the skin can also become thick which makes diagnosis difficult. Both conditions can appear on the hands, feet or neck, however Psoriasis will typically appear on the back of the elbows and the front of the knees, whereas Eczema will be on the reverse of these sides. It is often a common belief the Psoriasis is found on the scalp primarily but it can be found anywhere and Eczema can also be found on the scalp. You may not always be able to tell these two conditions apart if the skin condition is on an area that is typically shared by both and the symptoms are typical of both conditions. Hands and feet are the most difficult areas to determine but topical creams can be very effective for both of these conditions so it should not interfere with treatment.

If you are suffering from either Eczema or Psoriasis, a topical cream can help to soothe and alleviate the symptoms of these conditions without the need of determining which ones you have. If you are suffering from a skin condition and your doctor has been unable to determine which condition it is there are treatments available that can help regardless of the skin condition you suffer from. Even though both these skin conditions are caused by different means the treatment of them is primarily the same. A soothing natural cream that contains vital natural ingredients such as Aloe Vera a well-known skin-enhancing ingredient that has been noted as having various health benefits will provide you with natural and effective Eczema or Psoriasis relief whatever your skin condition is within a time period of about 4 to 12 months of regular use.

Psoriasis Treatment – Is There A Cure For Psoriasis

Unfortunately, there is no Cure for Psoriasis and any product that claims to offer a miracle cure is misleading you, as Psoriasis is a recurring condition and there is no permanent solution or Cure. There are however various different Psoriasis Treatments available including Phototherapy treatments, which will need to be undertaken regularly through your doctor. There are however, natural Psoriasis Treatments and although they cannot provide a cure for the skin condition they can help alleviate the effects, reduce the inflammation and reduce the area affected. Many people affected by this skin condition try inadequate and un-natural creams that yield little or no results. The worst part is that these creams are not cheap and many sufferers consistently purchase inferior quality creams at a high cost. When searching for a good Psoriasis Treatment cream you should look for some key ingredients that a natural product should contain and understand how they help your skin.

Aloe Vera is also commonly referred to as the medicinal aloe. This plant is well known for having rejuvenating, soothing and healing properties and it’s also closely associated with improving the skin. Studies on Aloe Vera have shown that it can help promote healing, reduce inflammation and improve the general overall health of your skin as well as having additional antibacterial and antifungal properties. This makes Aloe Vera a fantastic must have ingredient to be included in a natural Psoriasis Treatment cream. Many people would be surprised to learn that Silver is an effective medicinal treatment as an antimicrobial. It was also used as a treatment for wound dressings on infected wounds and although it suffered with the introduction of antibiotics it is now being used in a variety of mediums to help naturally prevent bacterial infections. Psoriasis sufferers will sometimes also be afflicted with a fungal infection at the same time in the infected area so silver is a vital ingredient.

Another powerful ingredient that the Psoriasis Treatment cream should include is Urea. Urea is also known as Carbamide and is used in moisturizing creams to promote re-hydration of the skin. This ingredient will help moisturize and reduce dry scaly skin caused by Psoriasis. Blue Chamomile is often known as German Chamomile and is used in particular for sensitive dry skin. It has soothing and calming properties for the skin area and will help reduce itchiness and redness. Another great flower to include is the Oenothera otherwise known as the Evening Primrose. This vibrant yellow flower produces an amber colored liquid from its seeds which is completely odorless. This flower is reputed to have many medicinal properties including the ability to aid the healing process and it is also commonly referred to as "Kings Cure all". Although this flower has a reputation for curing many ailments, remember that there is no Cure for Psoriasis available, yet.

These ingredients are effective for Psoriasis Treatments, and in general, are great for anyone who has dry or sensitive skin. If you are looking for an effective natural treatment then it should have some or most of these ingredients included. Topical creams overall are more beneficial than oral supplements as they can provide a direct application to the area you want to target and they contain a variety of beneficial substances. They can also provide immediate soothing relief for your skin condition particularly if you suffer from an intensely itchy and sore condition.

Guttate Psoriasis Symptoms

An uncommon form of psoriasis, guttate psoriasis usually affects the legs, arms, and trunk of the body. Instead of thick plaques, guttate psoriasis is characterized by small and fine pink or red drops.
There is a hereditary element to guttate psoriasis, but it is most commonly cause by a viral infection or a strep throat infection. The onset will often occur a few weeks after the infection. Guttate psoriasis may be reccurring or there may be a single outbreak. There is no cure for guttate psoriasis.
Since guttate psoriasis is mild, it is unlikely to cause scarring. Instead, your skin may feel irritated and itchy. Although it may be reoccurring, it is not a chronic problem and usually clears up in a few weeks.
Since guttate psoriasis tends to be more mild than plaque psoriasis, over-the-counter treatments are often sufficient. Keep your skin moisturized, especially after bathing, to prevent skin irritation. Topical steroids bought over-the-counter can also be used to control itching and inflammation.
Although over-the-counter treatments may be sufficient, you can also see your doctor for treatment. They may prescribe medication or decide to use ultraviolet light therapy, or phototherapy, to control the guttate psoriasis. With phototherapy, your skin is exposed to artificial ultraviolet light. It is an easy way to control a large area of psoriasis when compared with topical ointments and creams.
With guttate psoriasis, it is reassuring to know that most cases will run their course and clear up in a matter of weeks, without even having to see a doctor for treatment. You should, however, seek medical attention if the guttate psoriasis is reoccurring or is making you extremely uncomfortable or if you have other forms of psoriasis and you a get strep throat infection.
No matter which path you choose to deal with your guttate psoriasis, control the itching and irritation and you should be well again in a few weeks.

Nail Psoriasis – The 4 Symptoms Of Nail Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a difficult condition to live with. While at times it may be manageable, other times you may break out to the point where you aren’t even comfortable going outdoors in a short sleeved shirt. But with this condition, not only can it affect your skin but it can also affect your nails and joints. Out of all those who have psoriasis approximately 10-55% have some form of nail psoriasis. Nail psoriasis can affect your nail plate, the nail bed (under the nail) or even the nail matrix which is the tissue from which the nail grows.

The fingernails are more affected than the toenails. What you will normally see are one or more of the following:

Nail Pitting: This is the most common form of nail psoriasis. You will see small depressions within your nail as if they’ve been punched out.

Nail Discoloration: The nail will turn a yellowish or yellowish-pink color. It will look like drops of oil within your nail plate. This is called an ‘oil drop’. In the case of it being yellowish-pink it is called a ‘salmon patch’.

Nail Crumbling: From a weakened nail matrix, crumbling or even total loss of your nail is possible due to the effects of nail psoriasis.

Nail Separation: What you’ll see here is areas where the nail has lifted off of the nail bed. These areas will appear white due to pockets of air forming where the nail has lifted up. This is also known as ‘onycholysis’ and with it inflammation around the nail usually follows.

Nail psoriasis can be so bad that you won’t be able to keep doing your regular daily activities due to the extreme pain caused. It is for this reason that as soon as you notice any symptoms you look into a form of treatment immediately to prevent the condition from worsening. There are many treatment methods available online for your psoriasis which will effectively manage and even clear your condition. Don’t wait until too much damage is done before you take action.
